| The Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 7:27 a.m. to assist the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company on the PA Turnpike in the area of the Valley Forge Interchange for an overturned tractor trailer with entrapment.
Berwyn Engine 2-2 arrived on location as the first mutual aid unit and immediately went into service assisting with the extrication operation. Due to the size of the tractor trailer and its location on the traffic barrier, the rescue required diligent effort by fire and EMS personnel on scene to safely extricate the driver.
The extrication was officially completed at 9:03 a.m. The driver was flown to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania by PENNSTAR. The crash caused traffic delays on I-76 through the King of Prussia, Tredyffrin and surrounding areas as well as bringing westbound traffic on the Turnpike to a virtual standstill at the height of the morning rush hour.
Berwyn Engine 2-3 and Radnor Squad 15 stoodby at King of Prussia's main station to cover other emergency calls in the area until the incident was under control.
All units from the incident scene and on standby were available before 10:00 a.m. All agencies involved worked as a team to perform this successful rescue operation. |
