Station 2 was dispatched for a chimney fire at 4:45 p.m. with reports of flames coming out of the top of the chimney.
Engine 2-0 arrived on location at 4:50 p.m. and reported heavy smoke showing from the top of the chimney of a 3 story dwelling.

Upon entry into the residence smoke was discovered throughout the house. The walls around the chimney and up into the attic were immediately checked with the Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) to ensure the fire had not extended into the walls.

The fire in the firebox was put out with a water extinguisher, while the crew of Tower 2 arrived on scene and made access to the roof with ground ladders. Once on the roof 'chimney chains' were used to knock out the burning creosote, while the crew of Engine 2-0 extinguished the falling debris and moved it to the exterior of the home.

Crews worked for over an hour to clear the burning creosote from the inside of the chimney stack.

Station 2 cleared the scene by 6:17 p.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.

*Please remember to have your chimney cleaned and inspected annually by a certified professional.*
