The Malvern Fire Company was dispatched for a chimney fire in the 100 block of Line Rd. in Willistown Township at 6:56 a.m. A few minutes later additional information was received that heavy smoke was showing from the home with fire in the attic.

The incident was upgraded to a house fire response bringing mutual aid resources from the Paoli Fire Co., Goshen Fire Co., Berwyn Fire Co., Lionville Fire Co., Goodwill Fire Co. and the Chester County Hospital Paramedic Unit.

Berwyn Tower 2 responded as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), along with Lionville Fire Co. The two companies worked together to monitor fire conditions and placed additional ladders all on sides of the home for firefighter safety and egress. The RIT is in place to ensure protection for firefighters operating in and around the scene in the event of a building collapse or other emergency.

The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office and the PA State Police Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire, which started in the area of the chimney. The home sustained significant damage that displaced the family. The Southeastern PA Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.

There was no reported firefighter or civilian injuries. All units were clear of the scene by 10 a.m.
