| The Berwyn Fire Company, along with mutual aid from the Radnor Fire Company and King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to the 400 block of Devon Park Dr. at the Johnson Matthey East Building in Tredyffrin Twp. for a building fire at 9:04 p.m.
Berwyn Assistant Chief Eamon Brazunas arrived on location and reported fire showing from the roof, along with a smoke condition inside the building. Additional assistance was called in from nearby fire companies due to the size of the building and unknown extent of the fire on the roof.
Firefighters from Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties worked together to extinguish the fire by 9:52 p.m. Fire damage was limited to the roof and an oven in the large manufacturing facility. Fire crews utilized fans to remove the smoke from the building.
There were no reported firefighter or civilian injuries. The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. All units were clear of the scene by 11:05 p.m. All the employees were able to return to the building and operations at the facility resumed a short-time later in the unaffected areas.
The Johnson Matthey staff leadership on site did an excellent job in ensuring the building was evacuated prior to the arrival of first responders and provided the 9-1-1 Center with useful information. They are an example of how a business should be run and they make the safety of their employees a top priority.
The Newtown Square Fire Company (Ladder 41), Kimberton Fire Company (Engine 61-1) and Phoenixville EMS (MICU 67) stood-by at the Berwyn fire station during the fire in the event of other emergencies in Tredyffrin or Easttown Townships. |
