As firefighters from Berwyn were conducting a training exercise in Tredyffrin Township, Tower 2 was dispatched at 2:34 p.m. to relocate to the Lower Providence Fire Company in Montgomery County. Fire crews from Lower Providence and the surrounding area were on the scene of a multi-alarm fire at the Valley Forge Beef & Ale located in the 800 block of S. Trooper Road.

As Tower 2 was getting off Rt. 422, they were re-directed to respond to the fire scene to assist with additional personnel. The crew of Tower 2 assisted with opening up the 1st floor with saws in several locations to access fire that was still burning in the basement where the fire had originally started. Berwyn firefighters remained on scene until 6 p.m. before being released. Due to the size and multiple renovations of the building, it made it difficult for firefighters to extinguish the fire. There were void spaces that allowed the fire to burn all the way into the attic even though the fire had originated in the basement.

Fire crews from Lower Providence, West Norriton, Jeffersonville, Collegeville, Skippack, and Limerick were on scene,as well as Plymouth Ambulance and Lower Providence Community Ambulance Services. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined according to Lower Providence officials. The fire is under investigation by the Lower Providence Fire Marshal, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau.

South Trooper Road was reopened just before 8 p.m. on Saturday evening. The restaurant was occupied at the time of the fire, but all occupants were able to safely evacuate.
