| Several Berwyn Fire Company EMS personnel spent June 10th - 16th at the 2013 US Open of Golf working as EMS providers. Nearly 40,000 people attended the 113th US Open at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore. Haverford Township requested the assistance of Berwyn's EMS personnel several months ago. Berwyn's providers spent the week staged throughout the grounds on EMS bicycles equipped with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and advanced life support (ALS) golf carts capable of patient transport. Access to patients during large scale events such as the US Open is made difficult by congested areas and the limited use of warning equipment such as lights and a siren. Thanks to a well organized and executed medical response plan, the emergencies that popped up were handled efficiently and professionally. Berwyn Fire Company is proud to have been involved in the US Open and we look forward to staffing other large events this summer such as the 4th of July Fireworks at Wilson Farm Park and Devon Horse Show events. |
