Car Crashes into Storefront Injuring 4 People

TREDYFFRIN TWP. - On March 11th at 6:05 p.m., the Berwyn Fire Company and Tredyffrin Township Police Department were dispatched to the Gateway Shopping Center for a motor vehicle collision.

Initial 9-1-1 reports indicated a vehicle had crashed through the storefront at Famous Footwear with an unknown number of injured subjects.

Berwyn Fire Chief Eamon Brazunas arrived on location and reported one subject trapped between the front of the automobile and a wall. The driver was also injured and two more individuals were hit by flying glass and debris in the store.

An additional rescue unit was called from the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company, along with EMS support from the Radnor Fire Company.

Rescuers worked in tandem to free the trapped victim by 6:25 p.m. During the rescue effort, shelving came loose and fell on top of first responders. Fortunately this did not injure anyone or negatively affect the rescue operation.

A total of 4 people, including the driver were transported to Paoli Hospital by Berwyn and Radnor EMS units. The victim struck by the automobile suffered serious injuries, while the 3 others are considered non-life threatening.

Berwyn Engine 2-2 and Berwyn Fire Police remained on location until the vehicle was removed from the building and the debris was cleaned-up. All units were clear of the scene by 11:30 p.m.

Easttown Township Police also responded to assist with crowd and traffic control. The Tredyffrin Township Police Department continues to conduct their investigation into the incident.
