| Station 68 (Valley Forge) and MICU 67-2 (Phoenixville EMS) were dispatched for a dwelling fire on S. Forge Manor Dr. in Schuylkill Township at 2:32 a.m. The 9-1-1 caller reported a fire in their basement and garage. First arriving units encountered heavy fire showing from the garage of a 2 1/2 single family home with fire rapidly extending into the house. Chief 68 immediately requested a 2nd alarm of resources. Engine 2-3 was called at 3:03 a.m. along with other fire companies in Chester and Montgomery counties to assist as part of the 3rd alarm for additional manpower. The crew from Berwyn assisted with fire suppression at the rear of the house and then worked to extinguish hidden pockets of fire in the walls and ceiling on the 2nd floor of the home. The fire was placed under control at 4:10 a.m. The Chester County Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire. The total damages to the house are estimated at over $400,000. Engine 2-3 returned to Berwyn before 6 a.m., while Valley Forge units remained on scene for several more hours. Command: Chief 68 (R. Beittel) |
