The Berwyn Fire Company was alerted to assist the Radnor Fire Company with a working building fire in the 300 block of Lancaster Avenue in Wayne at 8:50 p.m.

First arriving firefighters were faced with heavy smoke and fire coming from the west side of the building. Berwyn Engine 2-3 went into service with multiple hose lines, while Berwyn Tower 2 put the aerial in service and placed ground ladders to ventilate the building for the crews operating inside the building.

The fire traveled from the basement up into the attic through open void spaces, which required extensive work to extinguish the fire. Firefighters from Paoli Fire Co., Malvern Fire Co., Manoa Fire Co., Bryn Mawr Fire Co. and King of Prussia Vol. Fire Co. also provided assistance on scene. Additional aid was given by Narberth Ambulance, Llanerch Fire Co. Rehab Unit and PENNSTAR Haverford EMS.

The Radnor Township Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. There were no reported civilian injuries, but two firefighters suffered minor hand injuries. After extensive overhaul, Berwyn was released from the scene by 12 Midnight and were back in service a short time later.

Special thanks to the Valley Forge Fire Volunteer Company and Uwchlan Ambulance Corps. for standing by at Berwyn to cover other calls.
