Tredyffrin Twp., PA - The Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 5:01 p.m. to 109 Cavalry Court in the Chesterbrook section of Tredyffrin Township for a reported electrical fire outside.

First arriving Berwyn units encountered heavy smoke showing from a middle of the row townhome with flames also visible. The incident was upgraded to a house fire, which called for Paoli Fire Company and Malvern Fire Company to respond. Additional assistance was also called from the Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company and the Radnor Fire Company.

A 2nd alarm was sounded at 5:18 p.m., which also brought the Newtown Square Fire Company and the West Whiteland Fire Company into the scene. The Narberth EMS Rehab Unit was later called to assist with their specialty rehab bus so first responders could warm up due to the freezing conditions.

The fire was placed under control at 6:28 p.m. The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office investigated the cause of the fire per standard protocol. The fire was ruled accidental and deemed electrical in nature. Final units and personnel were clear of the fire scene by 9:44 p.m.

The majority of the fire damage was contained to the original townhome where the fire started. However, several other townhomes suffered minor to moderate fire, smoke and/or water related issues. Through a coordinated team effort, the fire did not cause more destruction to the row of townhomes. Firefighters were also aided by firewalls that helped to contain the fire from spreading.

Fortunately, there were no reported first responder or civilian injuries during the incident. The homeowner where the fire originated escaped safely after being alerted to the fire by a neighbor. A total of 60 volunteers and 5 paid personnel responded to the scene in fire, EMS or fire police capacities.

Bradford Road was closed temporarily between Chesterbrook Boulevard and Stockton Drive due to emergency vehicles in the street and the need to potentially utilize an additional fire hydrant across the street. Firefighters had to spend extra time digging out a fire hydrant that was covered in snow so it could be used to provide additional water to fight the fire.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department, Tredyffrin Township Public Works Department, PECO, AQUA PA and Belfor Disaster Services all responded to the scene.

The East Whiteland Fire Company (Engine 5-2), King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company (Tower 47) and West End EMS – Phoenixville (MICU 67-3) stoodby at Berwyn’s fire station during the fire. During this time three additional fire responses and two EMS responses were handled in Tredyffrin Township.
