The volunteers and staff at BFC have kept busy these past 7 days in responding to over 50 fire/EMS calls. We were very fortunate that this most recent storm didn't produce the number of downed trees and power lines we have seen with previous events. Please stay updated on what BFC is doing by following us on Facebook at 'Berwyn Fire Company'.

Our crews were also out earlier this week clearing hydrants in the Village of Berwyn, Chesterbrook area, Glenhardie area and some other locations. We appreciated seeing many hydrants already dug out or marked with homemade signs so we could find them. To report a damaged or leaking fire hydrant contact Aqua Pennsylvania at 877-987-2782 immediately. If you require special assistance clearing snow from your fire hydrant, due to illness, age, etc., don't hesitate to contact the Berwyn firehouse at 610-644-6050 ext. 16 or email info@berwynfireco.org.

Due to the significant snowfall and snow drifts, BFC would like to remind citizens to keep their furnace vents, intake valves and chimneys free of snow and ice in order to keep the heat on and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. This past Saturday, firefighters responded to a home in Devon where an outside vent for a heater was blocked by snow. This caused dangerous carbon monoxide to leak into the house. Fortunately the family had working CO alarms in the home, which alerted them to the danger. Firefighters were able to ventilate the home and also clear the snow from the outside vent.

And finally, please use extra caution while driving due to narrow roadways and poor site lines at intersections as public works crews in both Townships and PENNDOT continue their work.
