Dear Neighbor,

Many residents and business owners do not realize how much the Berwyn Fire Company counts on private contributions to fund fire and emergency medical (EMS) operating costs. That's why we are asking for your help today. Our highly trained volunteers and paid staff have provided rapid care with state of the art equipment to Tredyffrin and Easttown for 123 years. In the past year alone we responded to over 900 fire calls and over 3000 combined fire and EMS calls. We rely on your financial support to respond to you in your time of need.

We rely on private contributions from the community to fund our daily operation. The majority of our funding is generated through medical billing reimbursement and private donations from residents and businesses, not tax dollars. In fact less than 25% of our annual operating budget is derived from municipal funds.

We have made significant progress in our collaboration with representatives of the Tredyffrin Township Board of Supervisors and the Easttown Township Board of Supervisors in addressing the fire/EMS sustainable funding issue. This past year we saw an increase in financial support from both Townships that will help us to carry out our critical mission in 2017. The momentum generated through the T-E Fire Companies Funding Coalition with the Townships, alongside our partners at Paoli, Radnor and Malvern fire companies will continue for the benefit of the T-E community.

There are many projects on the horizon for our organization. These include the replacement of our aging station that dates back to 1929, ongoing volunteer recruitment initiatives, and optimizing our response times to the Chesterbrook and greater Glenhardie area portions of Tredyffrin.

Based on anticipated call volume increases within the next 2-4 years, due in large part to new senior living centers and medical facilities within our coverage area, we are developing staffing models to ensure response times and deployment capabilities are in line with recognized national standards. We must be proactive and not reactive when it comes to these issues as a community.

Please visit our website at www.BerwynFireCo.org or 'Like' us on Facebook to stay current on our call activity and efforts during the year. Please don't hesitate to contact me directly at 610-644-6050 ext. 16 or by email at firechief@berwynfireco.org if you have any questions or concerns.
