MALVERN, PA - On June 21st, the American Red Cross hosted the annual Chester County Heroes Breakfast at the Desmond Hotel. Throughout the Chester County community, everyday people perform extraordinary lifesaving acts. The American Red Cross recognizes local heroes for their selflessness and courage.

The Chester County Heroes Breakfast honored the prior year’s local heroes for using their First Aid, CPR, AED training and/or other actions to save lives or make Chester County a better place to live and work. Among the various awards, the Berwyn Fire Company and the Tredyffrin Township Police Department were recognized in the Medical Hero category for their efforts in saving the life of a local teenager on September 22, 2016. The victim had been struck by a vehicle in their driveway and then become pinned underneath the vehicle before suffering a cardiac arrest.

Captain Evan Brazunas, EMS Captain Michael Baskin, ALS Coordinator Christopher Bickings, EMS Lt. Carl Weisbecker, EMS Lt. Scott Kramer, Sergeant Brian Hughes, Corporal Tyler Moyer, and Officer Neil Jackson were all recognized for their key roles in this dramatic event.

This incident highlights the value of the strong teamwork that exists between the Berwyn Fire Company and the Tredyffrin Township Police Department. It also underscores the importance of Advanced Life Support (Paramedic) care in the chain of survival in our community.

Thank you to the Tri-County Red Cross for coordinating this special event, along with the table sponsorship of Belfor USA. It was also great to see many of our friends from the Chester County Department of Emergency Services and the Devon Horse Show in attendance to support us. The BFC team sends its continued best wishes to John and the entire Deenis Family.
