BERWYN, PA - We are now a couple weeks into the Howellville Road PECO Gas Main Project in Tredyffrin Township. This week will see additional activity in the work zone as crews continue to place new 8-inch steel pipes in the ground.

You can expect daily road closures between 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and occasional Saturdays from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. The roadway between Old Lancaster Road and Conestoga Road is currently being worked on for the next several weeks. The project will eventually make its way down between Howellville Road and the entrance to the Main Line Berwyn Apartments. The project is scheduled to be completed in September according to PennDOT.

The Berwyn Fire Company has been working with officials from PECO, Henkels & McCoy, and Flagger Force to minimize response delays. This has included providing the flaggers on either end of the project with portable radios so they can be notified when there is a fire or EMS incident. This particular route is critical for going to calls and also getting volunteers to the fire station. The majority of our fire/EMS responses involve travel this direction to head down Cassatt Road to calls into Chesterbrook, the greater Glenhardie area, Rt. 202/422 corridor, Swedesford corridor and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The fire station house siren has been temporarily re-activated only when the work zone is active. This will provide the flaggers and workers on-site with additional warning to start moving equipment, steel pipes, steel plates, and other items so emergency vehicles and/or volunteers can safely travel through the work zone.

Drivers are directed to utilize the posted detour that takes you down Conestoga Road, Old Lancaster Road, and Lancaster Avenue during the work periods. Please allow extra time while traveling through the area.
