BERWYN, PA - Two additional Berwyn volunteers deployed to Texas with Team Rubicon USA to assist with the disaster recovery effort following the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey this past August.

Berwyn Captain Evan Brazunas and Firefighter/EMR Mary Ellen Toscani Cleary arrived in Texas this week. As these volunteers work in communities affected by record flooding, Berwyn Volunteer Firefighter/EMT William 'Bill' King who also deployed with Team Rubicon USA and Career Part-Time Firefighter/EMT Anthony 'A.J.' Pizzi and Career Part-Time Firefighter/Paramedic James Herb who assisted in the disaster area with the Pennsylvania Disaster Medical Assistance Team (PA-DMAT) returned home this week from their respective assignments.

The Team Rubicon USA water rescue team that Bill worked with effected the rescue of 73 people and 43 animals between August 28th and September 1st. Hundreds of homes were also searched for people that were potentially trapped by flood waters. This was just one aspect of many that this group of military veterans, first responders, and civilians have accomplished to contribute to a massive response to get those impacted back to a sense of normalcy.

Evan and Mary Ellen are assigned to assist with disaster assessment and disaster relief support. Team Rubicon unites the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. To learn more about Team Rubicon visit https://teamrubiconusa.org/.
