TREDYFFRIN TWP., PA - The Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 6:52 a.m. for a house fire in the unit block of Rampart Drive in the Chestebrook section of Tredyffrin Township. Due to the dispatch nature, automatic mutual aid from the Paoli Fire Company, Malvern Fire Company, and Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company were alerted to respond to the incident.

While enroute the Chester County 9-1-1 Center advised that the Tredyffrin Township Police Department had fire in a 2nd floor laundry room. It was also confirmed that the residence was evacuated as well as the adjoining townhomes in the development.

Upon arrival of Berwyn Engine 2-1, firefighters deployed a hoseline and extinguished a fire in the middle of the row townhome. The fire was contained to the laundry room closet area, with a significant smoke condition throughout the residence. Firefighters from Berwyn and Paoli also checked neighboring homes for smoke and ensured the fire did not extend beyond the room of origin.

The fire was placed under control by Berwyn Deputy Chief Justin Brundage at 7:07 a.m. The response was held to Berwyn and Paoli personnel, while the responding mutual aid units were recalled. All fire/EMS units cleared the scene by 8:00 a.m.

The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office investigated and ruled the fire accidental. The total fire loss was estimated at $8,000. There was no reported firefighter or civilian injuries.

This fire was a great example of a citizen having a working smoke detector in place that provided ample warning of a fire. In turn, the resident was able to call 9-1-1 quickly, along with being able to safely evacuate themselves and their pets.
