TREDYFFRIN TWP., PA - The Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 9:27 a.m. for a stove fire in the 1000 block of Old Lancaster Rd. in the Berwyn section of Tredyffrin Township. While enroute the Chester County 9-1-1 Center advised the 9-1-1 caller thought the fire was possibly extending beyond the stove, which upgraded the incident to a house fire response. This added the Paoli Fire Company and a Rapid Intervention Team from the Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company to the assignment.

The crew of Berwyn Engine 2-1 arrived with smoke throughout the 1st floor of the residence. Firefighters made quick entry and were able to extinguish the fire with a pressurized water extinguisher. A fan was set-up to remove the smoke from the home, while fire crews ensured the fire did not extend into any void spaces in the kitchen area.

The fire was declared under control at 9:35 a.m. The response was held to Berwyn units, while the responding mutual aid resources were recalled. All fire/EMS units cleared the scene by 10:30 a.m.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department provided traffic control between Conestoga Rd. and Howellville Rd. during the incident. The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office investigated and ruled the fire accidental. There was no reported firefighter or civilian injuries.

This fire was another great example in the past 48 hours of a citizen having a working smoke detector. As a result, the resident was able to evacuate and call 9-1-1 from a safe location. Smoke detectors save lives!
