EASTTOWN TWP. – On Thursday, January 4th at 9:53 p.m., the Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched to the area of Lancaster Ave. and Dorset Rd. in the Devon section of Easttown Township for a pedestrian struck by an automobile. This particular location is just prior to the historic Devon Horse Show Grounds.

First arriving emergency units found a plow truck operator down in the eastbound side of the roadway after being briefly pinned between the back of a plow truck and the front of a passing motorist’s vehicle. Fire/EMS personnel worked in tandem to move the victim safely to the ambulance for transport. The extreme cold weather made it even more prudent to get them into the ambulance as to minimize any further injury due to exposure to the elements.

Berwyn Ambulance transported the subject to Paoli Hospital with serious injuries. The crews of Engine 2-2 and Utility 2 remained on scene to assist with lighting and the road closure while the Easttown Township Police Department conducted their investigation.

Lancaster Ave. was closed in both directions between S. Valley Forge Rd. and Waterloo Rd. for about 30 minutes. The eastbound lanes were closed for an additional 15 minutes while the scene was being cleared up. All travel lanes of Lancaster Avenue were re-opened by 10:45 p.m. The Tredyffrin Township Police Department also responded and assisted with traffic and scene control.

The Berwyn Fire Company reminds the motoring public to use extra caution when encountering plow trucks on the roads. Allow extra room and be alert!
