Passing of Life Member Donald L. Vogelgesang, Sr.

BERWYN, PA - The Berwyn Fire Company regrets to announce the recent passing of Life Member Donald L. Vogelgesang, Sr. on February 6, 2018 at age 87. Husband of Kathleen (nee Rouse) Vogelgesang. Father of; Patrick (Linda), Catherine (Robert), Elizabeth (Peter), William, John, Maryann (Michael), Paul (Maryann) and the late Donald Vogelgesang, Jr. Don is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Don raised his family in both Easttown and Tredyffrin Townships, while spending his professional career with Berwyn based Mack Services Group. Don is the father-in-law of Life Member Michael Javie ('94) and grandfather of Firefighter Eric Javie ('12).

In 1955 Don’s then 3 year old son Patrick was accidentally suffocated after his jacket got caught on a fence. The Berwyn Ambulance was called and successfully deployed oxygen for the first time that resulted in his survival. At the time Berwyn’s Ambulance had been in service less than 5 years after being officially established in 1951. Following this traumatic event Don joined Berwyn where he would serve as an active volunteer up until 2005 on the ambulance and as a fire police officer.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 12th at 10:30 a.m at St. Monica Church in Berwyn. A viewing will proceed the mass at 9:30 a.m. Interment will occur at the Baptist Church in the Great Valley on N. Valley Forge Rd. in Devon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Simpson Meadows, Caring Friends Fund or Employee Emergency Fund, 101 Plaza Dr., Downingtown, PA 19355-5301.

He was a really good guy. A gentleman to all. Plus he and his wife raised a lovely family that I had the pleasure to teach. RIP.
