BERWYN, PA - On Monday, April 30, 2018, the Berwyn Fire Company provided mutual aid assistance to the East Whiteland Fire Company with a building fire at 3:31 p.m. in East Whiteland Township. While returning to station, a crew of five personnel on Engine 2-2 were involved in a motor vehicle collision at 5:41 p.m. with a single passenger vehicle at the intersection of Lancaster Avenue (US Rt. 30) and South Valley Road in Tredyffrin Township.

As fire/EMS crews from Paoli Fire Company were also returning from the same incident to their station, they quickly reacted to render assistance. The crew of Engine 2-2 dismounted their apparatus to check on the driver of the vehicle and provided patient care. Paoli Fire Company Ambulance transported the driver of the vehicle to Paoli Hospital with minor injuries.

Berwyn Chief 2, Deputy 2, Ambulance 2-3, and Utility 2 all responded upon report of the incident over the Chester County 9-1-1 radio communications system.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision. Lancaster Avenue (US Rt. 30) was closed for about an hour in the immediate area so the scene could be cleared.

Thank you to our mutual aid partners for the phone calls, text messages, and emails after hearing about this unfortunate event. Fortunately everyone involved was wearing a seat belt and first responders reacted promptly to assist the subject injured in the collision.
