BERWYN, PA – Volunteers and career staff saw another double-digit call volume day for the 7th time in less than two weeks. During a snowy mess yesterday, a total of 13 calls were handled in the Tredyffrin-Easttown community, with 6 occurrences of overlapping calls. The day started with a medical emergency around 7:30 a.m., quickly followed by two more calls within 40 minutes. Later in the morning, Berwyn EMS responded to assist the Paoli Fire Company with a motor vehicle collision on Rt. 252 near Waynesborough Country Club in Easttown. An officer investigation was also dealt with at New Eagle Elementary School in Tredyffrin in regards to a fire alarm system problem. Fire/EMS personnel were later dispatched to the area of N. Valley Forge Rd. and Pugh Rd. in Tredyffrin for a motor vehicle collision. First arriving units were met with a car that had run off the road and struck a tree. Two patients were transported to Paoli Hospital to be evaluated. Due to the roadway conditions, N. Valley Forge Rd. was closed between Timber Ln. and Devon State Rd. for over an hour. As this incident tied up all available personnel, Radnor Fire Company EMS covered a medical emergency call on First Ave. in Easttown. During the afternoon hours, three additional calls were handled in Tredyffrin that included another motor vehicle collision. Fortunately at this crash no one required transport to the hospital. Fire crews arrived to find an active leak from a residential gas meter after it had been accidentally struck by a snow plow contractor. Firefighters were able to safely shut off the gas and checked nearby residences for any gas odors. PECO was notified to respond to repair the damaged meter.
