BERWYN, PA - After a busy start to the week with 16 calls on Memorial Day and 14 calls on Tuesday, personnel were back at it on a stormy Wednesday with 20 calls dispatched by the Chester County 9-1-1 Center. The majority of these incidents took place in the Tredyffrin-Easttown community, while there were 12 occurrences of overlapping calls.

The thunderstorm that rolled through the area around 6 p.m. caused a number of problems that primarily involved fallen trees and power lines. Prior to the storm, 10 calls had occurred involving fire and medical related issues.

As a number of volunteers and career staff were responding to emergencies, a fire/EMS crew was also on standby at the Devon Horse Show. During the day a couple spectators were evaluated for heat related illness.

The Berwyn Fire Company wants you and yours to be safe. Always keep yourself at least 10 feet from downed power lines. Even though you may notice a covering on a line, NEVER assume it is safe to touch. A number of drivers and civilians were driving around barricades or through caution tape yesterday which created a number of close calls. Stay Away, Stay Alive!
