BERWYN, PA - Berwyn volunteers and career staff personnel kept busy with 20 calls dispatched by the Chester County 9-1-1 Center on Thursday, June 20th. The majority of these incidents took place in Tredyffrin Township, while there were 9 occurrences of overlapping calls. A total of 3 calls were handled in Easttown Township and mutual aid assistance was provided to the Radnor Fire Company with a building fire at Cabrini University in Radnor Township.
The overnight heavy rain cells caused flash flooding conditions that started the calls for the day just before 2:30 a.m. Fortunately the timing worked out where most, if not all of the flooding conditions had dissipated by the morning rush.
We understand that when flooding conditions occur it can be stressful and just a general headache. If your basement is flooded, please DO NOT call 9-1-1. However, if you think an electrical hazard or other problem is present due to the flooding in your home, please DO call 9-1-1 to report it. If you only have water in your basement you will be most quickly served by calling a property restoration company like BELFOR https://www.belfor.com/en/us to assist you. You can also contact your insurance company who can recommend providers that can perform these services.
The Berwyn Fire Company wants you and yours to be safe during flash flooding conditions while driving. Take the extra few minutes and seek an alternative route of travel if you encounter a roadway that is flooded. Turn Around! Don't Drown!
