BERWYN, PA - On Saturday, July 6th after 12 Midnight, the Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched to assist the Radnor Fire Company on a house fire with a person trapped in the 300 block of Louella Avenue in Radnor Township.

First arriving units from Radnor and Berwyn encountered smoke showing from a private residence. Berwyn Engine 2-3 responded with 6 volunteers and arrived quickly to render aid. The crew split up with personnel heading directly into the house to search for the trapped resident, while hose was connected to a nearby fire hydrant to supply water to Radnor Quint 15.

A 2nd alarm was alerted at 12:37 a.m., which brought additional resources to the scene. Berwyn Engine 2-1, Engine 2-2, and Ambulance 2-1 responded as part of this request. After a rapid search of the 2nd floor in poor visibility with fire burning underneath crews between the basement and 1st floor, an unconscious victim was located and removed to awaiting EMS personnel. Berwyn EMS transported the victim to Paoli Hospital.

All Berwyn units cleared the scene before 3 a.m. after being released by Radnor Fire Chief Joseph Maguire. This fire was a great team effort with many things occurring at one time to get the trapped occupant out of danger.
