BERWYN, PA - Berwyn volunteers and career staff responded to 15 calls in less than 20 hours as the workweek came to a close.

There were 6 basic life support calls, 5 advanced life support calls, 3 fire calls and 1 motor vehicle collision during the period aforementioned. Due to high EMS call volume in the area, a mutual aid Paramedic from the Riddle Hospital Paramedic Unit based in Newtown Square assisted on one of the responses in Tredyffrin Township.

The Berwyn ambulance that is stationed at the Old Forge Crossing Condominium Association near Valley Forge Rd. and Old State Rd. in Tredyffrin Township responded to an advanced life support emergency in the 700 block of E. Swedesford Rd. Prior to the implementation of this unit being stationed at this location a typical response would take an average of 9 minutes and 33 seconds to handle in this area. In this case the ambulance arrived in approximately 5 minutes from dispatch to begin patient care. This represents nearly a 50% reduction in response time performance.

The ambulance at Old Forge is present from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. during weekdays when a large portion of peak call volume occurs in the Tredyffrin/Easttown community.

As we continue to look at the impact of new development and existing areas that produce call volume, it is worth noting that 3 calls occurred at Recovery Centers of America at Devon in Easttown, 3 calls in the Chesterbrook area and 1 call at LifeTime Athletic in Tredyffrin.
