BERWYN, PA – This past weekend the volunteers and career staff of the Berwyn Fire Company handled several fire/EMS responses and attained training certification.

Along with 9-1-1 calls being answered, 3 new EMS volunteers completed CPR/AED training that was conducted by our EMS Captain who is a certified instructor. The Delaware State Fire School also assisted 3 of our firefighters, including our Fire Chief and one of our Battalion Chiefs, with incident command recertification under the Blue Card Program.

First responders didn’t get much sleep late Saturday night into early Sunday morning with 5 calls dispatched in less than 8 hours that included a commercial building fire and tractor trailer fire.

Just after 10 p.m. on Saturday night, Berwyn was requested for an Engine to assist the Paoli Fire Company in the unit block of Chestnut Rd. in the Paoli section of Tredyffrin Township for a restaurant fire. The 5-person crew of Berwyn Engine 2-2 responded in less than 2 minutes and was supplemented by additional volunteers via direct response to the scene. Upon arrival, the Engine crew laid several hundred feet of hose from a nearby fire hydrant and then performed fire suppression and ventilation of smoke from the building. Berwyn personnel were released from the scene by 11:30 p.m.

As Sunday started, an outside fire investigation around 2 a.m. on Waterloo Avenue in Easttown Township was handled and EMS responded before 3 a.m. to a medical emergency at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Chesterbrook. For the 2nd time this month, firefighters were sent to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Valley Forge Service Plaza in the 1400 block of Valley Forge Rd. in Tredyffrin Township for a tractor trailer fire in the 5 a.m. hour. The crew of Berwyn Engine 2-1 from the substation arrived first on scene to find the back of the trailer on fire. Additional personnel from Engine 2-2 arrived and worked with Engine 2-1’s crew to extinguish the fire. The scene was cleared within 90 minutes and no injuries were reported.

Besides a mutual aid request to assist the Phoenixville Fire Department on Saturday afternoon, 11 calls were responded to in the T-E community over the weekend.
