Dumpster Fire Damages Building in Berwyn

BERWYN, PA - On Sunday, March 7th at 3:38 p.m., the Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched to a trash fire in the 1000 block of Lancaster Ave. in Tredyffrin Township.

The crew of Berwyn Engine 2-2 arrived on scene with a dumpster on fire to the rear of a mixed use building with apartments and a business on the 1st floor. After further investigation, the fire was found to have extended to the exterior of the building and there was a light smoke condition inside.

The response was upgraded to a building fire, which called for resources from the Radnor Fire Company, Paoli Fire Company and Newtown Square Fire Company.

The fire was declared under control in less than 30 minutes after firefighters opened up the exterior walls and were able to extinguish all hotspots. All units and personnel were clear of the scene by 5 p.m.

The westbound lanes of Lancaster Ave. between Leopard Rd. and Grey Ct. were shut down during the incident by Berwyn/Paoli Fire Police. The Tredyffrin Township Police Department and Easttown Township Police Department assisted with traffic control.

During this fire response, the Malvern Fire Company and Paoli Fire Company EMS handled a motor vehicle collision on Rt. 202 South between Chesterbrook Blvd. and W. Swedesford Rd. in Tredyffrin Township.
