BERWYN, PA - As the crew of Berwyn Engine 2-1, from the substation near Gateway Shopping Center, was still on scene of the earlier Saunders Dr. trees and wires fire, another crew with Berwyn Engine 2-2 handled a tree leaning on power lines in the area of Berwyn Baptist Rd. and Devonshire Rd. at 2:05 p.m.

Not long after Engine 2-2’s return to the firehouse, another call was dispatched at 2:59 p.m. for a reported gas leak inside a home on Brookmead Rd. in Tredyffrin Township. Berwyn MICU 102 arrived on scene and reported a smoke condition inside and the call was upgraded to a house fire response. This added resources from the Radnor Fire Company, Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Co. and Upper Merion Township Fire & EMS to the incident.

Firefighters from Engine 2-2 quickly controlled a small fire in the kitchen and crawl space that was caused by an electrical problem in the area. Additional crews investigated neighboring homes and found other electrical related issues, including power lines that had fallen in a backyard. PECO made a quick response and was able to safely mitigate the electrical issues aforementioned.

Brookmead Rd. was closed between Valley Forge Rd. and Potter Ln. during the incident with the assistance of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department. The Chester County Department of Emergency Services Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the cause of the fire.

During the Brookmead Rd. incident, Paoli Fire Company covered a medical call on Cassatt Rd. in Tredyffrin Township at 3:44 p.m.
