BERWYN, PA - The Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 11:12 a.m. to the 800 block of Newtown Road in Easttown Township for a residential fire alarm activation.

While initial Berwyn units were responding, the call was upgraded to a house fire with a 9-1-1 report from the homeowner stating that their kitchen was on fire. This added resources from the Newtown Square Fire Company (Engine and Ladder) and Broomall Fire Company (Rapid Intervention Team) to the response.

The crew of Berwyn Engine 2-2 arrived on scene at 11:18 a.m. with smoke showing from the roofline of a 2-story single family home. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames before major damage could be done to the residence.

Berwyn Fire Chief Justin Brundage declared the fire under control at 11:39 a.m. All emergency vehicles and personnel were clear of the scene before 12:45 p.m.

Additional aid was provided by the Good Will Fire Company No. 2 of West Chester (Air Unit), Riddle EMS of Newtown Square and PECO Gas and Electric.

The Paoli Fire Company (Engine) and Malvern Fire Company (Ladder) provided standby coverage for the T-E community during this incident.

The Chester County Fire Marshals Office investigated and determined the cause of the fire to be accidental in nature due to a cooking mishap. Fortunately there were no first responder or civilian injuries.

Newtown Road was closed between Beaumont Road and Waterloo Road during the incident. The Easttown Township Police Department also provided scene and traffic control.
