BERWYN, PA - The volunteers and staff of the Berwyn Fire Company responded to 11 fire/EMS calls on Valentine's Day in the T-E community.

Firefighters were dispatched just after 12 Noon to the 700 block of Gulph Rd. in Tredyffrin Twp. for a residential fire alarm activation. Engine 2-1 responded from the substation and arrived on scene with smoke inside the house. The homeowner had reported that contents in a closet had caught fire and that they believed the fire was out. The crew quickly checked the closet with the thermal imaging camera and pulled some of the drywall out to ensure the fire did not extend into the walls. The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office investigated the fire per standard protocol.

Later in the afternoon at 2:33 p.m., firefighters were alerted for a building fire at the Ed Forde Service Center in the 700 block of Lancaster Ave. in Tredyffrin Twp. Mutual aid from the Radnor Fire Company, Paoli Fire Company and Newtown Square Fire Company was also requested.

First arriving units were met with fire and smoke coming out of the service bays of the auto repair shop. As firefighters with Radnor Engine 15 began to extinguish the fire, the crew of Berwyn Engine 2-3 laid several hundred feet of hose from a fire hydrant to provide additional water. This caused Lancaster Ave. to be closed in the immediate area during the incident. As personnel from Paoli and Newtown Square arrived, they were assigned with various tasks on the scene. The East Whiteland Fire Company was later dispatched for their spill containment unit. This was needed to control the runoff of fuel and oil that was involved in the fire.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department assisted with traffic control. The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office investigated the cause of the fire, which was ruled accidental. Belfor Property Restoration also responded to work with the building owner to secure the property and to mitigate any further damage. All units were clear of the scene by 5:30 p.m.

No civilian or first responder injuries were reported at the Gulph Rd. or Lancaster Ave. fire incidents.
