BERWYN, PA - The Berwyn Fire Company (BFC) is proud to spotlight some of our active members who are graduating from college this spring. They all joined the Company while attending Conestoga High School and have stayed committed throughout their time away at college.

Emily Nudy joined BFC in February of 2019 as an active EMS member. She was promoted to EMS Lieutenant in March of 2021 and her main responsibilities involve managing the precepting process for new EMTs, being a member of the QRS team, QA/QI, and staffing additional BLS units in times of high call volume. Emily will graduate from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Upon passing her NCLEX examination, she will begin as a New Graduate Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. St. Christopher’s is a Level One Trauma Center as well as a specialized burn center.

“BFC led me to develop a love for patient care in a high stress environment. I would not have ended up where I am today without the experiences I have gained from my time at BFC.”

Scott Miesen is a Firefighter as well as an EMT at BFC and joined the department back in 2016. Scott managed to remain an active part of the organization while he attended the University of New Haven. Scott pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science with a concentration in Fire Administration. He also was able to complete undergraduate certificates in Emergency Management and Fire/Arson Investigations. He completed an internship with the Phoenixville Fire Department in Chester County as part of his degree requirements. He hopes to be a part of a city based fire department and work up the ranks in the future, but hopes to remain a part of Berwyn Fire Company.

“The members, employees, and leadership at Berwyn always motivate me to be better as a first responder, student, and person. Without them and the opportunities they provide me, college as well as my dreams would look a lot different and I could not be more thankful.”

Nick Sondergard is an active firefighter at BFC and joined the department in 2017. Nick is graduating from Temple University with a major in Political Science and a minor in Criminal Justice. He plans to work within the criminal justice system and attend law school in the near future.

“My experience with the Berwyn Fire Company has helped me sharpen my work ethic and develop as a leader.”

Congratulations Emily, Scott, and Nick on this awesome accomplishment and dedication to the T-E community.
