BERWYN, PA - After responding to 6 fire/EMS calls in the T-E community on Wednesday, the Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched at 1:22 p.m. to the Pennsylvania Turnpike at mile marker 325.0 eastbound in Tredyffrin Township for a motor vehicle collision. At the same time, a Berwyn ambulance was handling a medical call at Devon Senior Living also in Tredyffrin. The initial 9-1-1 caller for the Turnpike incident reported a 3 vehicle crash not blocking the roadway and that it is was unknown if anyone was injured. Due to the major roadway construction and cattle shoot setup on the Turnpike, traffic was at a standstill and first responders had to utilize the construction road to access the scene. Berwyn Engine 2-2 and Ambulance 2-3 arrived with a pick-up truck on fire, along with a subject down on the roadway. After a quick assessment, Paoli Fire Company EMS (MICU 3-2) and Upper Merion Township Fire & EMS (Engine 56) were requested to respond westbound in the eastbound lanes from the Valley Forge Interchange since it was not possible to get additional resources to the scene due to the aforementioned traffic situation. Berwyn Ambulance 2-3 with the Paramedic began to assess and treat the injured driver of the pick-up, while the crew of Engine 2-2 extinguished the fire. The driver was transported as a trauma alert by Paoli MICU 3-2 to Paoli Hospital. A total of 2 career staff and 5 volunteers responded to the scene from Berwyn, along with 2 career staff on Paoli's ambulance and 4 career staff with Upper Merion.
