Driver Trapped in Rt. 202 Crash in Tredyffrin |

| BERWYN, PA - On Friday, July 31st at 12:34 p.m., the Berwyn Fire Company, along with automatic mutual aid from the East Whiteland Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services, was dispatched to the area of Route 202 Northbound between W. Swedesford Road and Chesterbrook Boulevard in Tredyffrin Township for a motor vehicle collision. Fire/EMS personnel arrived on scene with a single vehicle off the roadway with a subject trapped. The crews of Squad 5 (East Whiteland) and MICU 102 (Berwyn) worked in tandem to remove the roof of the vehicle to gain access after a tree had collapsed it. The subject was then safely moved to the awaiting ambulance. The Paoli Fire Company was also requested to assist with Squad 3, but was recalled after briefly staging in the area of Rt. 202 and Rt. 29. The driver and sole occupant was transported to Paoli Hospital with life threatening injuries by Berwyn MICU 102, along with the crew of MICU 2-1 on board. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Tredyffrin Township Police Department. During the rescue all lanes in the immediate area were closed for 45 minutes. After the rescue was completed, traffic lanes were restricted for an extended period as the investigation was conducted. |
