| Station 2 EMS was dispatched for the auto-accident with unknown injuries at 2:02 a.m. The 9-1-1 caller said they heard a crash.
Lt. 2 (E. Brazunas) arrived on location and reported a single vehicle on its side into a telephone pole with the driver trapped.
PECO Energy was also requested for a priority response due to the proximity of the accident to a transformer and a guide wire that was hanging loosely near live power lines.
The crews of Engine 2-2 and Rescue 2 worked quickly to stabilize the car that was perched over a storm water drainage pit. The Jaws of Life were then used to remove a section of the roof to safely extricate the driver by 2:31 a.m.
To complicate matters the car also struck a ground level transformer that ended up leaking 270 gallons of mineral oil. The DEP and the Chester County Haz-Mat Team were notified of the spill.
The lone occupant was transported by Amb./Medic 2-1 to a Philadelphia trauma center in stable condition.
All units cleared the accident scene by 3:48 a.m.
