| Station 2 was dispatched at 1:45pm for a possible underground transformer fire to the rear of Swedesford Plaza Shopping Mall in Tredyffrin Township.
Engine 2-0 arrived on scene with a large amount of white smoke coming up through ground within two feet of the building.
The call was upgraded to a building fire response after civilians had reported smoke and electrical odors in multiple stores. Over 200 people were safely evacuated and PECO Electric and Gas was called to turn off the utilities in the area.
The underground electrical fire sent carbon monoxide readings and smoke into a couple stores close to where the underground electrical fire was burning.
Once the utilities were secured, crews ventilated the stores with CO readings and smoke. Units from Berwyn, Paoli and Malvern also ensured no fire had spread into the stores via any electrical sources.
Although many stores had to be closed until the problem was fixed, no injuries occurred and there was no major property loss.
All units cleared the scene by 3:30 p.m.
