| Station 2 along with an assist mutual aid Engine from Station 15 (Radnor) were dispatched to 689 West Valley Rd. for the house fire. First arriving units reported a heavy volume of fire visible from the front of a 2 1/2 story residence.
A Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) from Station 4 (Malvern) along with a 2nd alarm assignment was sounded immediately.
The fire was placed under control at 00:02 hours. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal's office and the PA State Police Fire Marshal. There was a civilian fatality. There were no other civilian or firefighter injuries.
Assisting Berwyn were Radnor Fire Company, Malvern Fire Company and Lafayette Ambulance Corps. The last units cleared the scene at 04:13 hours.
