TREDYFFRIN TWP., PA - On November 26th at 2:54 p.m., the Berwyn Fire Company, along with mutual aid units from Paoli Fire Company and Malvern Fire Company were dispatched to the 100 block of Valley Stream Circle, in the Chesterbrook section of Tredyffrin Township, for the house fire.

The 9-1-1 caller reported a fire in their dining room and that they could not make it outside due to a handicap. They also stated they would be near the front of the house waiting for assistance.

Tredyffrin Township Police Department Officers arrived moments later and were able to safely evacuate the disabled homeowner who was waiting at the front door. They further assisted with evacuation of neighboring residents.

Engine 2-3 and Deputy 2 arrived on location at 3:00 p.m. and found a 2 story middle of the row townhouse with heavy smoke on the 1st floor. At the same time a 'working fire' was dispatched bringing additional resources to the scene due to size of the building and unknown extent of the fire.

The crew of Engine 2-3 went in service with a hoseline and made quick work of a fire in the dining room. A search was done to ensure no other occupants were in the residence, which there was none. Additional crews from Berwyn and Paoli assisted with ventilation of the smoke and ensured no fire had spread into adjoining units.

Berwyn EMS personnel evaluated and treated the homeowner for minor smoke inhalation on the scene. A cat was rescued from underneath a bed and returned to the homeowner who is resting comfortably this evening with friends and family.

The Chester County Fire Marshal investigated and determined the cause of the fire to be accidental. Damage to the home is estimated at $40,000.

Final units from Berwyn cleared the scene just after 4 p.m. and then responded to an oven fire on Coldstream Dr. in Tredyffrin Township.
Berwyn volunteers and paid staff responded to 10 calls on this Thanksgiving Day.

Special thanks to Marisa Norris for responding to the scene with a 'cat taxi' for the displaced homeowner.
