| At 2:30 in the afternoon, multiple calls to Chester County 9-1-1 were received by motorists in the area of Chesterbrook Blvd. and Andover Ct. in the Chesterbrook section of Tredyffrin Township. Callers could see flames and smoke showing from the top of a chimney. One of those callers went to the house where the fire was and alerted the occupants to the fire. Three occupants were able to escape, while neighboring units also began to evacuate.
Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched to an address in the unit block of Cabot Drive for the chimney fire. Upon arrival, fire was visible from the outside and it was confirmed that the fire had extended into the building in the attic and walls of the residence. A 'working fire dispatch' was requested, re-alerting Berwyn, Paoli and Malvern fire companies and adding more resources from Radnor and Valley Forge fire companies.
Arriving crews established a water supply from a nearby fire hydrant. An aggressive fire attack inside the residence was made and a quick knockdown of the fire was accomplished within 40 minutes of arrival. Fire damage was estimated around $100,000 by the Chester County Fire Marshal's Office.
No firefighters or civilians were injured during this fire. Weather conditions worsened throughout this incident with about 2 inches of snow on the ground by the time units cleared at approximately 5 p.m. |
