| Station 2 EMS was dispatched at 5:15 p.m. for an auto-accident with unknown injuries at the busy intersection of Rt. 252 and Howellville Rd. The initial 9-1-1 call indicated a head on collision with a car on its side.
At 5:17 p.m. the call was upgraded to an auto-accident with entrapment. This added Fire/Rescue/EMS resources from Station 2 and Station 3 (Paoli). Additional calls reported a subject trapped underneath a car.
First arriving units found a three vehicle accident with two subjects trapped in a large SUV on its side.
The crews from Berwyn & Paoli worked together to extricate the two occupants with the Jaws of Life by 6:07 p.m. and 6:17 p.m.
The rescue was especially precarious since the driver's arm was pinned underneath the vehicle and the other subject was suspended in the air from their seat belt. Air bags were used to carefully lift the car off the victim's arm.
The two occupants were flown to a Philadelphia trauma center in stable condition by PENNSTAR and Skycare aeromedical services from the PECO Energy helipad off of Cassatt Rd.
All agencies involved were clear of the scene by 7:00 p.m.
