BERWYN, PA – Berwyn rescuers have responded to a number of incidents today in the T-E community, including 5 calls occurring in less than 90 minutes earlier this morning.

During this time, a total of 3 trauma emergencies took place involving a worker being injured when a ladder fell, a subject who was injured in an overturned lawnmower accident, and a contractor being injured by a circular saw.

Berwyn EMS was dispatched at 9:42 a.m. to the 300 block of South Fairfield Road in the Devon section of Easttown Township for a worker being injured when a ladder fell. Due to the location of the victim, additional rescue personnel were requested to the scene to assist with patient removal to the ambulance. The worker was transported to Paoli Hospital in stable condition.

At 10:22 a.m., Berwyn firefighters and EMS crews were alerted to the 1000 block of Beaumont Road near the Easttown Township Municipal Building for a rescue. The Chester County Department of Emergency Services 9-1-1 Center advised a subject was seriously injured after a commercial lawnmower had overturned. The lawnmower operator was transported to Paoli Hospital in critical condition.

A few minutes later at 10:27 a.m. another EMS call was dispatched on Canterbury Lane off of Rt. 252 in Easttown Township. This involved a contractor suffering a serious hand injury due to an accident with a circular saw. Due to both of Berwyn’s ambulance being committed to other calls, along with Paoli Fire Company handling their own EMS call in Willistown Township, the Malvern Fire Company was requested to respond with their ambulance. Berwyn’s EMS Captain and firefighters were able to divert from other calls to assist at this medical emergency.

In the midst of the 5 overlapping calls between 9:42 a.m. and 11:09 a.m., the Paoli Fire Company covered a residential fire alarm activation in the Militia Hill section of Chesterbrook.

At the peak of activity today, first responders were operating with Engine 2-1, Engine 2-2, Ambulance 2-1, Ambulance 2-3, and Berwyn 2 (Command Unit).
