BERWYN, PA – On Sunday, August 30th at 4:55 p.m., the Berwyn Fire Company was dispatched to a house fire in the 700 block of Gulph Rd. in the Glenhardie section of Tredyffrin Township. Automatic mutual aid from the Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company, Paoli Fire Company and Upper Merion Township Fire/EMS Department was also requested to the scene.

Berwyn Engine 2-1 arrived with smoke visible from the rear of a single family home. The underside of a deck attached to the home, along with some outside equipment had caught fire after a mishap with an outside fire pit. The crew quickly deployed a hoseline to extinguish the fire and also ensured it had not extended to the residence.

The crew of Berwyn Engine 2-3 was the second piece of apparatus on location. They secured the electric to the deck area and checked the home for any smoke that may have made its way inside. All responding mutual aid units were recalled as Berwyn Battalion Chief 2B Evan Brazunas placed the fire under control within 10 minutes.

No first responder injuries were reported, but a resident suffered minor burns and was transported by Berwyn EMS to Paoli Hospital.

The cause of the fire was accidental in nature. The Tredyffrin Township Police Department provided traffic control along Gulph Rd. The Chester County Fire Marshals Office was notified per standard procedure. All units were clear of the scene by 5:45 p.m.

This was another great example of the effectiveness of our substation located at 1100 West Valley Rd., at the intersection of West Valley Rd. and Swedesford Rd. in Tredyffrin Township, in reducing response times and minimizing property loss.
