Passing of BFC Life Member James E. McGrady

BERWYN, PA - With heavy hearts, the members of the Berwyn Fire Company regret to announce the passing of Life Member James E. McGrady on December 30, 2018 at the age of 76. Jim or Jimmy as we called him around the firehouse joined the Company in 1958 as a 16 year old junior firefighter.

Jim served as an active member in the roles of firefighter, fire police officer, assistant treasurer, financial secretary and secretary during his tenure of faithful volunteer service to the residents of Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships. Jim was named Fire Police Officer of the Year in 2004. He was also a graduate of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department Citizens Police Academy in 2006.

As a volunteer Jim represented the best part of what it means to serve others. The Company sends it deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Relatives and friends may call on Thurs. Jan. 3, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Alleva Funeral Home: 1724 East Lancaster Ave. Paoli, PA. A Funeral Service will be held on Fri. Jan. 4th, 2018 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Monica Church: 63 Main Ave., Berwyn, PA 19312.

James E. "Jim" McGrady, 76, formerly of Paoli, PA and more recently of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully on December 30, 2018 after a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer. Jim was a dedicated life member of the Berwyn Fire Company, having served for over 40 years as a Firefighter and member of the Fire Police. He is survived by his beloved daughter: Ashley (Matt) Fromm & 3 granddaughters: Lexie, Emma & Abigail Fromm. Also Surviving are 3 siblings: Suzanne (Joseph) Rubino, George (Floss) McGrady & Thomas (Cherie) McGrady; along with many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 from 6—8PM at Alleva Funeral Home, Inc.: 1724 E. Lancaster Ave., Paoli, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Monica's Church: 63 Main Ave., Berwyn, PA on Friday Jan. 4, 2019 1030AM. Interment to follow at St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's honor to: The Berwyn Fire Company: 23 Bridge Ave., Berwyn, PA 19312 or Barclay Friends, 700 N. Franklin St., West Chester, PA 19380. Arrangements are with Alleva Funeral Home, Inc. Paoli, PA.

Our condolences to BFC and the family of Jim McGrady from East Whiteland Fire Police. Jim's accomplishments are an inspiration to all of us.

R.I.P. uncle jimmy and thankyou berwyn fire company for the send off ... I think those whistles blowing as we past the fire houae caused theshedding of enough tears to put out a fire.... Thank you again...... Thom
