BERWYN, PA - As we wake up this morning there continues to be numerous roads that are closed throughout the T-E community due to downed trees and power lines, along with flood damage to roadways. At 9:00 a.m., its reported that 30% of Tredyffrin Township and 52% of Easttown Township remain without power. PECO and other electric crews are working hard to get power restored. This is a widespread event so you can expect issues to linger for the next few days.

If you see caution tape, road barricades and/or flares blocking a roadway or area, DO NOT move or go past these items. Always keep yourself at least 10 feet from downed power lines. Even though you may notice a covering on a line, NEVER assume it is safe to touch. Stay Away, Stay Alive!

Berwyn fire/EMS personnel kept busy during the overnight hours between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. with another 10 calls responded to in the T-E community. The Paoli Fire Company covered a fire alarm on Tenby Rd. in Easttown Township at 1:55 a.m. as Berwyn crews were dealing with several telephone poles on fire and a tree down in the area of Cassatt Rd. and Hickory Ln. in Tredyffrin Township at 1:29 a.m., followed by a medical emergency at the Main Line Berwyn Apartments at 2:17 a.m. also in Tredyffrin Township. Berwyn and Paoli firefighters were dispatched to the 300 block of Cassatt Rd. in Tredyffrin Township at 2:54 a.m. for an electrical fire inside a residence. Radnor Fire Company EMS assisted Berwyn fire/EMS crews on the scene of a residence on School House Ln. at 10:18 p.m. in Tredyffrin Township involving a trauma patient. A total of (2) EMS related incidents and (8) fire incidents occurred during the timeframe aforementioned.

Over 30 fire/EMS calls have been responded to by Berwyn first responders in the past 24 hours in the T-E community. This was accomplished with a combination of (6) career staff and (28) volunteers, along with emergency vehicles deploying from the main station and substation.

Easttown Township - 610-687-3000

HOW TO REPORT A PECO GAS/ELECTRICAL EMERGENCY

If at any time you smell natural gas, see downed power lines on fire or arching, or suspect an unsafe electric or natural gas condition; please leave the area immediately and then call 9-1-1 and PECO at 1-800-841-4141. DO NOT CALL 9-1-1 to tell them your power is out. This is not an emergency.

ARE YOU USING A PORTABLE GENERATOR TO POWER YOUR HOUSE?

• Generators should be operated in well ventilated locations outdoors away from all doors, windows and vent openings.
• Never use a generator in an attached garage, even with the door open.
• Place generators so that exhaust fumes can't enter the home through windows, doors or other openings in the building.
• Make sure to install carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in your home. Follow manufacturer's instructions for correct placement and mounting height.
• Turn off generators and let them cool down before refueling. Never refuel a generator while it is running.
• Store fuel for the generator in a container that is intended for the purpose and is correctly labeled as such. Store the containers outside of living areas.
